Until now, young people had to “leave” the pediatrician's practice after their 18th birthday and continue to be cared for by family doctors.
With effect from October 1, 2025, the Evaluation Committee has officially integrated the group of “adolescents.” This means that treatments up to the age of 21 are now anchored as billable services for pediatricians:
An adolescent is defined as a person between the ages of 18 and 21, i.e., between 18 and 21 years of age.
In addition, chronically ill adolescents and young adults can continue to be cared for by a pediatrician after their 21st birthday in individual cases if they so wish.
